All is set for Caloocan City’s commemoration of the 118th Independence Day on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Bonifacio Monument Circle.

The celebration to be led by Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan carries the national theme “Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong.”

Joining Mayor Malapitan in the ceremony are: Vice Mayor Maca Assistio, Congressman-elect Along Malapitan, Congressman Edgar Erice, Caloocan City Administrator Oliver Hernandez, officials of the 188 barangays in Caloocan, public school teachers, city hall employees, and representatives from the police and military force.

Among the Independence Day activities are the following: flag raising ceremony that will be simultaneously held in different parts of the country, pledge of loyalty to the Philippine flag, wreath laying, blowing of horns and sirens, and the releasing of doves and balloons.

“This year’s celebration will be simple but its essence will remain the same,” said Mayor Malapitan.

He added that, “the observance of the Independence Day is our way of paying respect and honor to our heroes who fought for our country and our freedom.”

Malapitan also hopes that the patriotism and the love for our country will always live in the heart of each Filipino.
