More than 42 families who survived the fire in Barangay 144 Caloocan City received financial aid from Mayor Oca Malapitan and Congressman Along Malapitan.
Caloocan City Social Welfare Department (CCSWD) Chief Roberto Quizon reported that 12 house owners got P5,000 each, including veteran actor Dick Ysrael or Ricardo Michaca in real life.
Mayor Malapitan also gave a new wheelchair to Ysrael right after the fire incident, because the actor's wheelchair was gutted by the fire.
House renters and house sharers, or a total of 165 individuals including the house owners, have been receiving free meals and relief packs daily, since July 2 when the fire broke out.
Minda Cruz, 65, said she is grateful to Mayor Malapitan for the cash aid. “Malaking tulong na po ito lalo na sa amin na naabo lahat at walang kahit na anong natira. Magandang panimula na po ito,” she tearfully said as she thanked the Mayor.
Through the City Mayor’s directive, Quizon provided the fire survivors with evacuation areas at the nearest covered courts where basic commodities will be regularly distributed, but the latter refused and opted to stay with their relatives.
